Gloriously irreverent and wholly accessible….
Welcome to Mappa Mundi Theatre

Welcome

Welcome to the virtual living room of Mappa Mundi Theatre Company; unapologetically shaking up the classics with irreverence and wit.

Over the years cult Welsh theatre company Mappa Mundi have built a reputation for gloriously irreverent, populist and accessible adaptations of classic theatrical and literary works. For more years than we care to admit we have been shaking up well know classics and giving them our own cheeky twist.

Our most recent touring productions include the critically acclaimed Still Life (2015), The Compleat Female Stage Beauty (2013), A Midsummer Nights Dream (2012), Much Ado About Nothing (2011), Dangerous Liaisons (2010), She Stoops To Conquer (2009) and The Importance Of Being Earnest (2008).

We are delighted to announce that Mappa Mundi will tour Wales in autumn 2015 with Still Life – a compendium of victorian ghost stories, inspired by the works of EdgarAllan Poe and M.R. James.

For all our news and updates please come and find us on facebook and twitter.

About Us

Our Background

Frustrated at the lack of opportunities for Welsh artists to perform classical literary works, a handful of actors, designers and a composer grabbed the artistic bull by its horns and formed Mappa Mundi Theatre Company.

With unrelenting ambition (it’s what you need if you have no money!) they steamed ahead with their own inimitable approach: Titus Andronicus Kabuki style; Taming of the Shrew, men only and King Lear or rather Queen Lear and her male offspring.

Gathering apace, their reputation for irreverent adaptations of classical theatrical and literary works, led to firm support from the Arts Council of Wales which in turn began a much valued and ongoing co-producing partnership with Theatr Mwldan.

By now of course, Mappa Mundi not only perform in a variety of venues and regions across Wales but they also enjoy repeated success with numerous well-respected theatres across the UK and Ireland.

If you have been supporters of Mappa Mundi and helped us make it this far, we’d like to thank you muchly…if not, why not? Fools!
